Appreciation post: the $14 peel and stick tile I laughed at actually saved my kitchen
My backsplash looked awful for 3 years, ugly 90s beige with grease spots that would NOT come clean. My sister kept sending me peel and stick tile links and I rolled my eyes every time, figured it was cheap junk for rentals. Finally caved after she bought me a pack for my birthday in March, ended up covering the whole 20 square foot wall in one afternoon. It looked SO good my landlord asked who I hired, and I told him it was me plus a box cutter and a level. Has anyone else had a surprise win with budget materials they were embarrassed to admit they tried?

My buddy swore by the cheap foam crown molding from the hardware store, said it looked like real wood once he painted it, and his landlord actually gave him a break on the deposit because of it. Took him a Saturday and a lot of caulk, but honestly you couldn't tell the difference.
