Tried dimming my app's background to #0a0a0a instead of pure black and my eyes stopped hurting after 2 hours
Was working on a late night session redesigning my portfolio site last tuesday around 2am. Had the usual #000000 background and was getting that eye strain headache I always get. Swapped it to a super dark gray on a whim and it felt way easier to read. Like the text didnt have that weird shimmer effect against pure black anymore. Anyone else notice this or am I just getting old?

Yeah pure black is brutal on the eyes.

Wait, isn't that the same reason people hate those super bright white LED lights in their kitchens? It's like our eyes just weren't built for extreme contrast anymore, everything has to be softened or dimmed down just to feel normal. Honestly it makes me wonder if we've all gotten so used to screens and fake light that anything too harsh or perfect just feels wrong now.
