Spent 5 hours debugging a contrast issue that was just my monitor settings
I was working on a dark mode update for this small client's news site last month. Everything looked great on my screen, nice gray backgrounds with readable white text. But the client kept saying it was too washed out. I tweaked colors, adjusted contrast ratios, ran accessibility checks, wasted a whole afternoon. Finally I went to their office and looked at their monitor and it was an old TN panel cranked to max brightness. My calibrated IPS screen was showing totally different blacks. I had to redo the entire palette based on what their average user would actually see. Now I always check the client's setup before I start a dark theme. Has anyone else had this kind of hardware mismatch mess up their design work?
