Rant: my dark mode greys looked fine on my monitor and terrible on my friend's phone
I spent about 3 weeks tweaking a settings screen for a side project, and I was so proud of it until I opened it on a friend's phone at a diner in Denver. Everything that looked like nice soft grey on my screen turned into muddy brown and purple bands on his, and I could not figure out why for 2 more days. Turns out I was picking greys with a slight blue tint instead of pure neutral ones, and cheap screens with bad color shift made the tint really obvious. I switched to true greys and pulled back the contrast between layers, and now it holds up on 4 different devices. Does anyone here test their dark palettes on cheap phones, or am I the only one who got lazy about it?
