Pure black backgrounds ruined my app, here is what I saw

I used to set #000000 everywhere because it looked sleek in screenshots. Last week I tested my dark theme on a phone screen at night and the text looked like it was vibrating, all blurry and harsh. Someone on a UX forum pointed out that pure black forces the eye to work harder because there is zero ambient light reflection. I switched to a dark gray like #121212 and the contrast ratio is way better, plus the UI feels softer and more readable. Has anyone else noticed OLED screens making pure black worse for long reading sessions?

Pure black is for screenshots, not for actual eyes.
