Pure black backgrounds are killing my eyes on 3 apps now

Three apps I use daily switched to #000000 backgrounds this month, and scrolling at night feels like staring into a flashlight beam. Pure black makes text look like it's floating and creates this harsh glow around bright icons, especially on OLED screens. Why do so many designers treat true black as the default dark mode when a dark gray like #121212 is way easier on the eyes for long sessions?

Three apps is hardly a pattern, maybe just adjust your screen brightness instead of blaming designers.
