My old design lead in Austin said to never use pure black in a dark theme, and after 4 years of fighting it I finally get why
He said the screen would feel like a void and text would swim against it, so I built everything on #121212 for years, but last week I tried #000000 on a whim for a small side project and honestly he was right, everything looked like it was floating with no floor under it.

A buddy of mine swore pure black was fine until he switched his whole site over and said it felt like staring into a cave at night. Took him about a week to crawl back to like #111 or so.
