My dark mode nav contrast failed the 8 AM test

Last Tuesday I shipped an updated sidebar with softer grays for that sleek look, then my coworker squinted at it on his phone outdoors and said the links basically vanished. I panicked and spent the morning adding a subtle border and bumping the text up a notch, which fixed it without wrecking the vibe. How do you all balance that barely-there aesthetic with keeping stuff readable in real daylight conditions?

Ha, I'm the opposite honestly! I keep pushing for those soft grays and my teammate's always the one yelling about contrast. But yeah no, you're probably right, nobody reads in a pitch black room at 2 AM with their brightness maxed.
