Hot take: finding out my dark theme burns more battery than the light one
I always figured dark mode was the battery saver. Then I read a write up last Tuesday that said OLED screens only save power on dark pixels, and if your dark theme uses a dark gray like #1a1a1a instead of true black, you get almost none of that savings. So I checked my own phone with a tester app and my "power saving" theme was sipping just about the same as light mode. I was stunned. It turns out my big dark gray cards were basically glowing at full brightness the entire time. My own theme was lying to me. Now I am debating whether to go pure black and lose the soft look, or just admit the battery thing was never real. Has anyone here tested their own theme and found out it was doing nothing for power?
