Hit 93% Lighthouse score on a dark theme after 5 tries
Been rebuilding my portfolio site with a dark mode toggle for a few weeks now. Kept getting trash scores around 60-70 because I was using pure black backgrounds and text that was too thin. Switched to a dark gray like #121212 and bumped my contrast ratio up to 7:1 on body text. That single change pushed me to 93% on mobile and 91% on desktop. Wild how one color value can wreck performance metrics too. Anyone else seen that kind of jump just from ditching pure black?

Fair point, iris_park, I ran it again three times today and got 71, 68, and 70, so that 93 was probably just a lucky run.

Did you ever stop to think the score jump had nothing to do with the color? Lighthouse mobile tests swing 20 points run to run based on network noise and server response times. Pure black is actually fine for OLED screens and tons of top sites use it without tanking their numbers, so you probably just got lucky on run six.
