Heard a stat that 80% of users prefer dark mode but only 30% of apps actually offer a good one
I was reading a UX study from Nielsen Norman Group last week and they claimed 80% of users say they prefer dark mode for reading at night, but only 30% of apps have a genuinely usable dark theme. The other 70% just invert colors and call it done, which ruins contrast and readability. So do we think the real issue is lazy design or that most devs don't know how to pick the right gray values for backgrounds?

Honestly I feel like 80% is one of those stats people just make up to sound important. Who's going around surveying everyone about their phone theme preferences?

My buddy Tom actually works for a phone company and he told me they literally ran a survey last year through their app, got like 40,000 responses. Turns out people do care way more than youd think, mostly about battery widgets and dark mode stuff.
