Dark mode with pure white text is physically painful to read on my OLED phone after 10 minutes

Took me switching to a slightly off-white like #E0E0E0 for body text and suddenly my eyes stopped watering at night - has anyone else tested different text shades instead of just flipping to #FFFFFF?

pure white text is physically painful" - yeah I had the exact same thing. My buddy showed me this trick where you set your text to like a really light gray instead of full white and it helped a ton. I've been using #C0C0C0 for my terminal background too and it's way easier on the eyes. Actually I tried that #E0E0E0 you mentioned and it's pretty good but I noticed it made my screen look a tiny bit dimmer so I have to crank the brightness up a little higher.

Funny how this stuff bleeds into everything else too. Once I started noticing how harsh pure whites are on screens, I started seeing the same thing with like presentation slides and even car headlights at night. Everywhere you look people are just blasting you with full brightness white and it's nuts.
