Couldn't decide between a pure black or dark gray background for a new app screen

Had to pick between #000000 and #121212 for the main background. Went with #121212 after reading it reduces eye strain. Tested both on my phone for a full day. The pure black made text seem to vibrate a bit, which was annoying. The dark gray just felt easier to look at for longer. Anyone else find pure black backgrounds cause visual fatigue?

Totally made the same call on my last project. Pure black on OLED can make thin text look like it's glowing or floating, which gets old fast. That #121212 range is a sweet spot, still feels dark but way easier on the eyes for reading. You'll notice less of that harsh contrast when you switch between bright and dark screens too. It just makes everything feel a bit more solid and restful to look at.

Yeah that "glowing or floating" text thing is so real. I spent like a week thinking my eyes were broken before I figured out it was the pure black.
