Can we talk about the debate over pure black backgrounds versus dark gray?
I was working on a dashboard for a client in Austin last week and they insisted on a true #000000 background for their dark mode, saying it saved battery on OLED screens. My design lead argued that a dark gray like #121212 is easier on the eyes for long sessions and reduces eye strain. It turned into a whole thing, and now I'm not sure which side is right for most users. What's your take on the pure black versus dark gray argument?

Wait, your client in Austin actually said the battery thing? That's wild, they must be really into the tech specs lol. Pure black on OLED does save a tiny bit of power, but it makes text look awful and jumpy for a lot of people. Dark gray is way better for actually using the thing without getting a headache.
