Rant: My own 2FA app caught me slacking last Saturday

I was doing a late night password reset for my email account last weekend around 11 pm. My phone was dead so I had to dig out my backup codes from a drawer. Turns out I had written them on a sticky note that was half faded from being near a coffee mug. I had to guess between a 5 and an S on three different codes. It took me 20 minutes to get back into my own account. Has anyone else come up with a better way to store backup codes that doesn't involve sticky notes?

Oh man, guessing between a 5 and an S on a faded sticky note at 11pm? That sounds like a nightmare! I would have just given up and gone to bed honestly. You've got way more patience than me for sitting there guessing for 20 minutes.
