Rant: A phishing email almost got me because it looked so real
I got an email yesterday that looked just like it was from my bank. It had the right logo and even mentioned my last transaction. I was about to click the link to 'secure my account' because it seemed urgent. But something felt off, so I hovered over the link and saw a strange website address. It hit me that this was a phishing attempt trying to steal my login details. Now I make sure to verify any email by contacting the company directly instead of clicking links. It's a simple step that can save you from a lot of trouble.

Contacting the company for every email seems excessive.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from @cooper.spencer. I was in the same spot before and it felt like too much. What helped me was picking which emails really needed a reply, like only for customer orders or serious problems. I stopped answering every single one and it made a huge difference. Now I spend maybe an hour a week on it instead of all day.

An hour a week sounds about right. @ivan176 has the right idea. I set up some filters to sort things before I even look at them.
