My neighbor's kid asked me for the wifi password to 'check his game' and I almost gave it out.

I was working in my garage in Phoenix last weekend when the kid from next door came over. He said his tablet wasn't working and asked for my home wifi password to 'fix his game'. I was about to tell him, but then I remembered reading that smart devices can be a weak spot if they're not on a separate network. I told him I'd have to ask his dad first. What's a good, simple way to set up a guest network for stuff like that?

Good call asking his dad first, that was the right move. I mean, once you set up that guest network, do you plan to just leave it on all the time for convenience, or only turn it on when someone actually needs it? I feel like leaving it on is easier but maybe it's just another thing to manage.

You were smart to pause on giving out your main wifi password. I read an article last year that said a guest network is basically a digital airlock. It keeps visitors' devices from seeing your personal computers and smart home gadgets. On most routers, you just log into its settings page and look for a guest network option to turn on. You can set a different, simpler password just for that.
