My neighbor in Phoenix had his Ring camera hacked because he never changed the default password.

Now I check every single device on my network and force a password change before I even plug it in, what's your first step with a new smart gadget?

My old router got breached once from a weak password. Now my first step is always checking for a firmware update before I even connect it to Wi-Fi. Outdated software is just as bad as a default login.

Exactly. What @wren301 said about routers shows a bigger problem. People buy a gadget, plug it in, and just hope it works forever. They forget that software needs care, like changing the oil in a car. It's wild how many security issues come from just ignoring that little update notification for months. That "set it and forget it" habit with tech is asking for trouble.

Wait, people actually plug in a router without checking for updates first?
