My local library's public wifi had no password, so I checked the router settings

I was at the downtown library in my town last Saturday to get some work done. Their public wifi didn't have a password, which I thought was odd for a place with all those computers. Out of curiosity, I typed the default gateway into my browser and the router login page came right up. Default admin credentials still in place. I didn't touch anything, but I told the librarian at the front desk. She said she'd have their IT guy look at it. Has anyone else found public routers set up this carelessly?

Had a buddy find the same thing at a coffee shop near his place" - I mean, worst case is someone messes with the router and knocks the wifi offline, but what's the actual risk to a random person checking their email there?

Had a buddy find the same thing at a coffee shop near his place. He could literally log into the router and see everyone's traffic. He just closed the tab and told the barista, but it's wild how many places don't bother to change that stuff.
