Caught a phishing link at a coffee shop in Denver last month
I was at this place called The Weathervane Cafe in Denver last month working on my laptop. Someone on the same wifi got a text that looked exactly like their bank's login page, even had the right URL at first glance. I saw them type in their password before I could say anything. That night I changed my own home setup to block sketchy redirects through my router. Anyone else had close calls in public wifi spots?

Yeah that URL trick gets me too, saw it happen to a buddy at a coffee shop in Austin. What worked for me was turning on two-factor on my banking apps, and I use a VPN when I'm on public wifi now. Also started checking URLs manually by typing them in instead of clicking from texts, even if they look right at first. Router blocking sounds smart, I just use a free VPN app instead, keeps me from worrying about random hotspots.

Good point about checking URLs manually @josephf10. People think a link looks legit but it's just one letter off. Free VPN apps worry me though, some of them sell your data worse than the hotspots do. Spend a few bucks on a paid one if you can. Two factor is a lifesaver, I had someone try to get into my email once and it blocked them cold.
