Why do people keep setting grid-template-columns to 12 fixed tracks instead of just using minmax and auto-fit?
I've reviewed maybe 15 freelance project codebases since January and every single one hardcodes something like repeat(12, 1fr) when repeat(auto-fit, minmax(250px, 1fr)) would collapse that whole media query block into one line, so is there a real reason folks stick with the 12 column thing or is it just Bootstrap muscle memory at this point?

Man, the 12 column thing goes deeper than muscle memory, it's baked into every design handoff and Figma template so devs just match what they're handed. Which is a shame because auto-fit plus minmax does 90% of that work in one line and nobody ever has to argue about column spans again.
