Wasted $200 on a crappy grid framework before realizing CSS Grid was already there
Back in 2018 I bought some premium grid framework for like $200 thinking it would speed up my layouts. Spent a whole weekend reading the docs and setting it up, only to discover it broke on mobile half the time. Then I actually learned proper CSS Grid and realized the framework was just doing a worse version of what I could write in 10 lines. Has anyone else bought into a paid layout tool that ended up being useless?

Honestly $200 is a lot but I mean that's still a cheap lesson compared to some of the ones I've seen. I knew a guy who dropped like $600 on some "revolutionary" flexbox framework that was literally just a series of pre-made classes with weird naming conventions. He spent three months building a whole site around it and then the developer just disappeared and stopped updating the docs. CSS Grid came out and his whole framework just fell apart because it relied on floats and negative margins. I mean that's the thing with paid tools like that, they are always promising to save you time but then you end up learning the framework instead of learning the actual CSS. And once that framework goes away you have nothing but frustration.
