The web design teacher who told me CSS Grid was 'just a fad'
So two years ago I'm sitting in a community college night class in Akron trying to get better at front end stuff, and the instructor walks past my laptop, points at my grid layout, and goes "that's a fad, real layouts use floats." I kid you not, this was 2022 and he said floats. He spent the next ten minutes explaining how clearfix is the future and I just sat there nodding because I didn't want to argue in front of the whole room. The funny part is my sidebar was lined up perfect with one line of grid-template-columns while the guy next to me was still fighting margins and wrapping divs. I dropped the class a week later but I still think about him every time I write grid-template-areas and it just works on the first try. Has anyone else run into someone who swears the old way is still the best way, and how do you even respond without sounding like a know it all?
