Showerthought: I spent 4 years manually placing items with float before trying grid on a landing page last Tuesday
I was building a portfolio site for a photographer in Denver and kept fighting with margins and clearfix hacks. Then I stumbled on a Codepen that used grid-template-areas and it hit me like a truck. Anyone else have that one moment where they realized they were making things way harder than they had to be?

Oh man, that Codepen moment is the absolute best. I was fighting with float and clearfix for months on a client site and finally tried grid on a whim. It felt like cheating honestly, everything just snapped into place without all that nonsense. Now I cant look at float layouts without cringing a little.

Hold up though, is it really that serious? I get that grid makes layouts easier but I see people acting like float ruined their whole life and it feels kinda dramatic. Before grid there was still flexbox which handled a ton of stuff fine, and even before that floats worked okay if you knew what you were doing. People act like they were chiseling layouts into stone tablets or something lol. Grid is nice, sure, but it also has its own weird edge cases and browser quirks. I still use float for simple image wraps and it works perfectly fine without crying about it. Just feels like everyone needs a villain to feel better about their coding past.
