Pro tip: my grid hit 1,247 lines of CSS before I finally deleted the media queries
I was cleaning up a dashboard layout I built back in March for a client in Denver and ran a line count just to see how bad it got. 1,247 lines. I expected maybe 400. Turns out I had over 60 media queries stacking on top of each other, mostly from me patching stuff at 2am instead of fixing the grid itself. The fix was swapping all that junk for auto-fit and minmax on the card grid plus a couple of clamp() calls on the gaps. Same layout, same breakpoints working, but it dropped to 310 lines and the thing finally resizes smooth instead of snapping. I sat there staring at the diff feeling like a chump for not doing it months ago. Do you all count lines when you refactor, or do you just wait until the file makes you mad enough?
