Overheard a designer say "grids are for control freaks" and it made me rethink my whole process

They were talking about how they just let content float with flexbox and spacing, never using explicit grid columns, and I gotta admit their sites had way more breathing room. Does anyone here intentionally skip grid for certain projects?

honestly i kinda get where they're coming from. i used to be a total grid freak, like 12 column every single time. then i had this one project where the client kept changing the content order and it was a nightmare trying to keep everything aligned across breakpoints. so i just said screw it and let flexbox do its thing with some max-width containers and generous gap spacing. it felt so freeing honestly, like the layout just breathed instead of being all rigid. but i will say, for stuff like actual data tables or really heavy content layouts, i still fall back on grid. it's more of a tool in the toolbox than a rule now.

Twelve columns every time? That's borderline obsessive.
