A reviewer said my grid looked like a spreadsheet with no lines, so I added gap and never looked back
I put together a dashboard layout with CSS Grid for a side project back in March, and a friend who does front end work took one look and said it felt like "a spreadsheet with no lines." At first I was a little annoyed, but then I opened it on my phone and saw what she meant. Everything was crammed together with no breathing room, so I bumped the gap from 0 to 16px and added a little padding inside each card. That one change made the whole thing feel way less cramped, and I ended up using gap: 1rem on almost every grid after that. I also started using minmax(220px, 1fr) for card grids so they wrap on small screens without me writing extra queries. What gap values do you all default to for dashboards versus simple card layouts?
