Hot take: using too many gradients in CSS art is basically cheating

Am I the only one who thinks people lean way too hard on gradients instead of actually building shapes with divs and borders? I saw this landscape piece the other day with a sunset that was just one radial gradient slapped on a background. Looks nice but where's the craft? On the flip side, I get that gradients save time and can make stuff look smooth. But to me the whole point of CSS art is the puzzle of constructing things from basic boxes and transforms. Once you break out the gradient gun it feels like you're painting with a roller instead of a brush. What side are you on? Do gradients count as proper CSS art or just a crutch?

Right? I saw a forest scene that was literally just three gradients stacked on each other and people were losing their minds over it. Borders and divs take real planning, gradients just feel like the easy way out.

tara345 nailed it. Might as well just open up Photoshop at that point and skip the pretense.
