Warning: my writing group's 'bad idea brainstorm' got way out of hand

Last Tuesday, our prompt was 'a sentient vending machine with a grudge', but my friend Mike took it literally and spent the whole session trying to buy a soda from the office machine while whispering apologies. The machine ate his dollar and he spent the next hour writing its villain origin story. Has anyone else had a simple prompt completely derail a session in a hilarious way?

A whole hour writing a villain origin story for a vending machine that ate his dollar? That is some next level dedication. I would have just kicked the thing and called it a day. The fact that he kept whispering apologies while trying to buy a soda is what really gets me, like the machine has feelings to hurt.

Sounds like Mike just gave that machine its first real victim. The villain origin story practically writes itself.

Villain origin story" reminds me of an article about AI learning from bad data.
