Unpopular opinion: Travel writing topics focus too much on pretty views.

Many writing starters I see ask you to describe a place like a busy market or a quiet forest. One view is that this builds a strong setting for stories. The other is that it misses how travel can show what people are really like. Which side do you lean towards?

Agree completely. Pretty views are everywhere online now. The real magic is in the people you meet. Their daily lives tell a better story. We should write about those connections way more.

Exactly, those small talks are what make a place feel Real. A photo just sits there, but a good story with a person keeps growing in your mind. That's the stuff worth putting down on paper.

Totally get that. My favorite travel memory is from Morocco, not some fancy sunset, but this old shopkeeper who made me mint tea for an hour just to talk. He drew maps on napkins, told stories about his grandkids. That stuck with me more than any photo. Those human moments are what you actually remember years later. Writing should grab that.
