That prompt about a letter from your past self hit me weird at 2am

I stumbled on a writing prompt last night about receiving a letter from your 16 year old self, and it got me thinking about how many of us actually use prompts based on real locations we've been to. I was in a tiny coffee shop in Portland last week and overheard a girl writing a scene set in that exact alley behind the shop. It made me wonder, do you guys prefer prompts that are tied to specific places you've visited, or do you like keeping them totally made up? I've been stuck on my current project for about 3 weeks and thinking about using my trip to that abandoned train station outside Denver as a setting. Has anyone else tried turning a real visit into a prompt and had it actually unlock something?

yeah that abandoned train station sounds perfect, real places carry all this weird sensory stuff you cant fake, like the exact smell of rust and old gravel. definitely makes the writing feel less hollow when you can pull from actual memory banks instead of just imagination.
