My critique partner swore by writing in 10 minute sprints, I thought it was a gimmick, then I hit 2,000 words in one night

Tbh I've been stuck on chapter 4 of my fantasy novel for like 3 weeks. A writer I met at a coffee shop in Austin kept telling me to set a timer for 10 minutes and just write nonstop, no editing, no stopping to check my notes. I figured that was for people who lack discipline, not me. Last Tuesday I gave it a shot out of pure desperation after my third coffee went cold. I typed out a whole fight scene in one sprint that I'd been wrestling with for days. Then I did another sprint and another. Before I knew it I had 2,000 words and actually knew where the chapter was going. I still don't love the timer, but I can't argue with results. Has anyone else found a weird writing hack they wrote off but now use almost every day?
