Just realized writing prompts aren't just for fiction...

I always thought prompts were only useful for short stories or novels. But I tried a prompt about a personal memory and it helped me structure a memoir piece... completely changed my view. Any recommendations for prompts that work well for non-fiction?

Thought prompts were just for stories until I tried one for a memory. It made me organize my ideas without fuss. The messy past got a clear shape, and I saw the story in my own life. For non-fiction, prompts about a place or a big moment work well. Try writing about a meal that shifted your view or a talk you replay. Seems basic, but it beats a blank page.

Actually, something that worked for me was using prompts to argue with myself. Like, try a prompt that says 'write about a belief you once held that was completely wrong.' It forces you to dig into the why, not just the what happened. You end up tracking how your mind changed, which is pure non-fiction gold. That messy middle of changing your view is where the real story lives.

That messy middle really is where the writing gets good.
