Just hit 500 distinct character names in my fantasy series outline, which is a problem.

I was cleaning up my Scrivener file and the character list hit 503, and half of them are just minor nobles from one kingdom. How do you guys keep your casts from ballooning like this?

Have you considered merging some roles?

Merge roles? That would take some serious convincing, half the cast would probably walk out.
