I was wrong about writing groups being a waste of time
For like 3 years I avoided joining any local writing meetups because I figured it would just be people circlejerking over their unfinished novels. Finally gave in last month and went to one at a coffee shop near me. Turns out having someone point out that my third chapter had a giant plot hole I didn't see was actually super helpful. Not all critiques were good but one guy's suggestion about switching POV characters saved me from rewriting 40 pages. Anybody else have a similar experience where something they thought was pointless ended up being useful?

Funny how the loudest critics are usually the ones who've never shown up to one.
