I celebrated a prompt goof by finishing a story

Mixed up two prompts in my notebook, one about a key and one about a quay. Wrote a nautical mystery by accident. My writing group loved the unexpected setting. Just sent it off to a contest.

Love how you turned a prompt mix-up into a contest entry. Mixing "key" and "quay" is a perfect happy accident. Your writing group must have been delighted by the nautical twist. It is ironic that a simple error sparked such creativity. Sending it off to a contest is a bold step. This might just be your best mistake yet.

Funny you should mention happy accidents, @alice128, because I had a similar thing happen once. I typed "bridge" instead of "b ridge" in a poem, and it suddenly became about crossing over instead of climbing. Those little slips can totally change where a piece is going, for better or worse.

My friend Sam once wrote "desert" instead of "dessert" and his whole story shifted to a survival tale... he actually sold it.
