Character arcs used to be all plot driven for me, now they start with a flaw
Back in 2016 I would map out every event first and then figure out who the character was. Now I pick one core weakness like jealousy or fear of failure and build the story around them overcoming it. Does starting with personality over plot work better for you guys or am I overthinking this?

Wait, are you me? I swear I went through the same shift a couple years ago. Plot-first writing left me with characters who felt like they were just going through the motions. Starting with a flaw makes everything click into place because the story is built around them changing as a person. You're not overthinking it at all, this is how most of the books I love are written now that I actually pay attention. Good on you for figuring out what works better.

Starting with a flaw makes everything click into place" - nailed it, that's exactly the trick.
