A random line in a grocery store aisle sparked my next short story
I was standing in the cereal aisle last Friday, grabbing a box of oatmeal, when a kid behind me told his mom, "The milk tastes different when you're sad." That one sentence hit me like a brick, and I stood there for a full minute thinking about how we could build a whole scene around a character who only notices that detail after a loss. Has anyone else found a story seed from something a stranger said out of nowhere, and if so, how did you turn it into a solid first draft?

Did you actually write the draft, or are you still just replaying that kid's voice in your head?
