100 writing prompts into my daily prompt habit and it's actually working?
I've been writing that joke about prompt a day for myself since January. Day 100 hit last week and I'm shocked. I thought daily prompts were just busywork for people who can't commit to a real draft. But writing something dumb for 15 minutes before work in Des Moines has built up a folder of ideas I actually want to expand. Two of them turned into short stories I'm happy with. How did daily prompts ever become more than procrastination for you, or is this just a honeymoon phase I'm in?
Honeymoon phase, definitely. Give it another 50 days and you'll be writing prompts about prompts just to feel something. But honestly, that folder of expandable ideas is the real win. Most people just collect prompts like they're Pokemon cards and never look at them again. You actually turned two into stories, which is more than most people do with their "real" drafts. Just wait until day 200 when you're writing a prompt about a guy who writes prompts and it becomes your best work yet. That's when you know you've hit rock bottom and it's actually kind of awesome.
