Studio mate said 'just fix it in post' and now I'm questioning everything we do
Last Thursday my audio guy Mark and I were wrapping a 3 day shoot for a local bakery when he shrugged and said 'don't worry about the hum, just fix it in post.' That one line got under my skin. Side A says getting it right on set is the whole job, since we spent $2,400 on boom mics and a treated room for a reason. Side B says post tools are cheaper and faster now, so why burn an hour chasing a fridge buzz when you can zap it in 10 minutes. I've been on both sides, and honestly the last 4 projects where we fixed stuff later all ended up looking slightly off. Where do you draw the line between fixing it on set and cleaning it up later?
