Rant: That random chat with a retired ad guy at the coffee shop

He told me his studio spent 6 months sketching logos by hand before even touching a computer, and I realized I've never once drawn a single idea on paper before opening Illustrator. It made me wonder if I'm skipping the part where the real creativity happens. Has anyone else tried going back to pencil and paper first?

My uncle still writes out his grocery list by hand before he even thinks about getting a phone out. He said it helps him remember what he actually needs instead of just grabbing whatever looks good. That whole sketch first thing reminds me of how we jump straight to the tools now without letting the idea breathe. Like we're so scared of wasting time that we end up wasting the real work. There's something about the slowness of a pencil that forces your brain to actually think instead of just reacting to a blank screen.

Tbh @kim.hannah that grocery list thing is spot on. It's the same reason I still use a paper planner instead of a calendar app - the act of writing it down actually makes me feel like I've done something, and I'm way less likely to forget.
