Picked a local print shop over an online giant for my studio's business cards

I had to choose between a $50 order from PrintPlace or $120 from a shop two blocks from my studio. Went with the local place because I wanted to see the paper stock in person before they ran them. Got the proofs back in 2 days and the owner even pointed out a spacing issue I missed. Cards came out cleaner than anything I've gotten through the mail. Has anyone else had better luck with a local printer compared to the big online guys?

That thing about the owner catching a spacing issue is exactly why local shops are worth it... they actually look at your file with human eyes before hitting print. I've had online orders show up with weird color shifts or cut-off text that nobody caught in their automated system. For anything where the paper feel matters, it's smart to physically touch the stock before they run the job.
