I finally tried a 'no meeting Wednesday' rule at my small studio.

We're a three person video team in Austin and I was sure blocking a whole day would just push work into Thursday, but after two months our edit turnaround dropped from 5 days to 3. Did anyone else have a policy they thought was a gimmick that actually worked?

We banned internal emails on Fridays and it cut our pointless chatter in half.

That "pointless chatter" line is interesting. Some of those Friday emails are actually useful. Last week someone sent a quick update about a server issue that was going to affect my work. If that had waited until Monday, it would have caused a real problem. Maybe the goal should be to cut the pointless stuff, not all the Friday talk. A simple "no non-urgent emails" rule might work better.

Ask @the_ben if they tracked whether any of that supposedly pointless chatter saved someone from a mistake? A blanket ban might be a cheap way to cut noise, but you lose the signal too if you don't check first. Removing Fridays seems like an easy win until an urgent update sits unseen until Monday.
