Got burned at a studio mixer in Brooklyn and now I NEVER skip prep
Last month I went to this creative studio mixer in Brooklyn, like 60 people crammed into a small gallery space. I figured I'd just wing it with my portfolio on my phone, no big deal. But then this guy from a big agency asked to see my work and my phone had NO service and the wifi was dead. I looked like an absolute fool fumbling with loading screens while everyone watched. A friend there texted me later saying I should have brought printed cards or a backup drive. Now I always carry a small print book AND a PDF on my laptop, even to casual meetups. Has anyone else had their phone fail at exactly the wrong moment during a networking event?

60 people in a small gallery and not one person thought to check if the wifi worked before the event started.

Honestly, "no big deal" sounds like the right attitude to me. If someone judges your skills based on a wifi hiccup that's their problem, not yours.
