Found a cheap way to stop my studio's door from slamming shut
Been dealing with a heavy fire door that kept slamming every time someone walked through. Loud and annoying during recording. Tried a few felt pads and they just got crushed. Tried a door wedge but it looked terrible. Last week I grabbed a simple soft-close hinge from the hardware store, cost me about $12. Took 20 minutes to swap out and now it glides shut quiet as a mouse. Anyone else found a quick fix for noise issues in their space?

Man that door slam is a nightmare for recording, I feel your pain. Had a similar setup in my basement studio and the sound would ruin takes every single time someone moved. The hinge swap is honestly the way to go for sure. I ended up using one of those hydraulic dampers that attaches to the door frame instead because my hinge situation was weird, but the result is the same. Silent doors change everything when you're trying to keep a good vibe and not have to redo vocals. Your fix makes me wanna double check all my doors now.

Yo, that hinge swap is the real pro move. I did the same thing in my live room but went with a self-closing hinge with a built in dampener - it was like $15 and took maybe 15 minutes to swap. Makes a huge difference when you're trying to keep bleed out of takes and not have that BANG every time someone walks through.
