Compared two camera studios for product shots in Houston and one was way better

I needed 20 product shots for a new line of mugs I'm selling. Tried Studio A first, they charged $150 an hour and used basic LED lights. Took 4 hours and the colors looked off on my screen. Then went to Studio B, $200 an hour but they had strobes and a color calibration station. Finished in 2 hours and the files matched perfectly. That extra $50 an hour paid for itself in time saved. Has anyone else found that paying more for the right gear actually saves money in the end?

Oh I feel this so much. That bit about the colors looking off on your screen really got me, I've been burned the same way with cheaper setups. It's crazy how that extra $50 an hour at Studio B ended up being a better deal when you factor in the time and the headache of trying to fix bad color later. I had a similar thing with a local food photographer here, paid more for their calibrated gear and got perfect results in half the time (and felt way less stressed).

Oh man, that reminds me of when I tried to save money on a printer once and ended up spending twice as much on ink that didn't even match what I saw on screen. Why do we always think cheaping out will work out?
