A/B tested two client pitch styles, the casual one won every time

I run a small design studio in Austin and last month I tried two ways of presenting the same logo concepts. The formal deck with all the strategy talk got polite nods, but the casual version where I just talked through the sketches over coffee got them excited enough to sign off in one meeting. Turns out the client wanted to feel like a collaborator, not an audience. Has anyone else noticed that ditching the corporate format actually brings in faster approvals? I'm thinking of making the loose style my default now.

Funny, that casual win might just be a one-off. Some clients love the formal deck because it makes them feel safe, like they're making a serious business call. When you go loose, you're betting the whole thing on your charm, and if the client is nervous or answerable to a boss, they'll stall. The strategy talk gives them cover, something to point at and say "we picked this for these reasons." Loose might work fast, but formal works when the stakes are high.
