A client in Austin said my podcast edits sounded 'wobbly' and I had to Google what he meant
Back in the day I would just cut the umms and ship it, maybe 20 minutes of cleanup per episode. This guy emails me after episode 12 and says the levels wobble, like the host gets loud then quiet then loud again. I pulled up the waveform and sure enough, it looked like a rollercoaster because I was doing every edit by hand in Audacity. Bought a $30 plugin for compression and loudness matching, ran it on the back catalog, and he came back saying it sounded like a real show. Still do a manual pass first though, the plugin can't fix bad mic placement. Lately I've been wondering if I should just charge more and do less cutting, but the wobble thing still haunts me. Did anyone else get a one word complaint that made them redo their whole workflow?
That "wobbly" comment would've sent me straight to waveform purgatory too, especially after 12 episodes. At least he told you something instead of just ghosting, but man, one word can really make you question everything.
