Unpopular opinion: the wind that cost me a 6 hour day in Gary, Indiana was the best thing that happened to me
Last Tuesday I had a 300 ton lift at a steel mill in Gary and the wind gauge hit 28 mph steady, so myself and two other operators shut it down around 9am and sat in the trailer for 6 hours. I was fuming at first, lost the day, looked like an idiot in front of the mill super. But during that dead time the other two guys walked me through their load chart shortcuts on the LTM 1300 and pointed out that my boom angle on the previous pour was 4 degrees steeper than it needed to be. Ngl, that one tip about reading the chart from the tipping line instead of the boom line has saved me way more time than those 6 hours cost. Anyone else had a wind shutdown turn into a free lesson?
