Tried that no-lube pivot trick on a jump lift yesterday
I was working a 50-ton Grove in an old quarry outside Austin and decided to grease the main pivot like I always do, but a guy I trust said to try running it dry on the first lift of the day. The boom swung smoother for about two cycles before it started groaning and sticking on me, felt like the whole cab shook. Anybody else run into weird results skipping lube on a older machine?

...and that's exactly why I don't trust dry pivot tricks on anything older than a 2010 model. The lack of lube lets grit and rust get in, and once that groaning starts, you're already wearing down the bushing. Have you pulled the pin to check for flat spots yet, or are you stuck waiting for the noise to get worse before you drop the boom?
